Not long ago, I found myself spending way too much time playing a game. I didn’t realize it at first, but my soul was starving. I felt spiritually dry, disconnected, and empty.
That night, I turned back to God’s Word. I stayed up until 2 a.m. watching Bible teachings, and something happened—I felt life coming back into me. When I focused on Jesus, my soul began to breathe again.
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4, ESV)
I couldn’t get a line out of my head: “feeding my flesh, starving my soul.” That’s exactly what was happening. I was giving time and energy to things that couldn’t truly satisfy, while neglecting the only One who could.
“Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.” (Isaiah 55:2, ESV)
The Choice We All Face
Every day, I have a choice—will I feed my flesh or will I feed my soul? Entertainment, hobbies, and distractions may give temporary pleasure, but only Jesus gives eternal life and lasting joy.
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.” (Romans 8:5, ESV)
When I choose to spend time with Him—reading His Word, praying, worshiping—I find my hunger satisfied and my spirit renewed.
Final Thought
Games, social media, and hobbies aren’t inherently bad, but if they take the place of Jesus, they leave us dry. True life comes only from feeding on God’s Word and walking closely with Him.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” (Matthew 5:6, ESV)
✨ Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve let distractions starve my soul. Teach me to hunger after You more than anything else. Fill me with Your Spirit and remind me that true life is only found in You. In Jesus’ name.
